Yale lures top faculty from Wharton and IE

Almost a year after joining Yale School of Management, dean Edward Snyder has appointed two top faculty from outside the school to head up the MBA and Executive MBA programmes. Anjani Jain is to leave the Wharton school at the University of Pennsylvania to become senior associate dean for the full-time MBA programme and David Bach is to leave IE Business School in Spain to take over the EMBA and global programmes at Yale.
Prof Bach will also be in charge of Yale’s recently announced Global Network, which brings together more than 20 business school from around the world - from South Africa to China and Turkey - in a loosely affiliated global network. Prof Bach’s current school, IE, is also a member of the network.
Anjani Jain is vice dean at Wharton and an operations management specialist.
For Prof Snyder, being a successful dean is all about the people. “I’m not a product manager the way some deans are,” he told the FT in November 2011. “I believe the role of the dean is to clarify the position and the people follow. You reflect back to the faculty, students and alumni who they are. If you get the people right, they will [build the school] themselves.”
Before joining Yale, Prof Snyder was dean of Chicago Booth and the Darden school at the University of Virginia.
