In pictures: Pakistan floods spread from mountains

Relief workers are scrambling to prevent hunger and outbreaks of disease in ravaged areas of Pakistan. An estimated 1.8m people will need food aid over the next few months in the north-western Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province alone, according to the World Food Programme.

The scope of the crisis has widened as water has flowed into Punjab, Pakistan’s agricultural heartland, where hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to abandon their homes and farms.
