Monty Alexander is a flamboyant and soulful mainstream pianist and a master of reggae – sleeve notes tell of him sneaking out of school in Jamaica to play on Coxsone and Chris Blackwell-produced sessions when he was thirteen.

This CD, Volume 2 of Harlem-Kingston Express, rounds up recent studio and live recordings and adds a spirited cover of “Concierto de Aranjuez”, recorded live in Jamaica in 1988. The few vocal tracks distract, but the instrumentals throb with rhythm, and “Sleaky” and the live “Regulator” are top notch.
