Yorkshire newcomer John Newman has two chart-toppers to his name already: the Rudimental collaboration “Feel the Love” and his own “Love Me Again”, both neatly accessorising Newman’s retro-soul vocals with modern beats.
But the trick proves harder to repeat over the course of a whole album. Arms-flung-wide gospel choruses, uplifting Italo house piano chords and the singer’s vibrant yowl ensure Tribute pounds along gamely, but its anthems come to resemble carbon copies of each other.
