Side Effects

Steven Soderbergh, 2013

Dry mouth, lack of energy and a tendency to murder your loved ones: depressive Rooney Mara learns the hard way why you really should always read the label. But can the killer be held responsible? Or is med-dispensing shrink Jude Law at fault? Or big pharma’s culture of greasing palms for clinical trials?

Steven Soderbergh directs with customary crispness but the brisk script emphasises subterfuge over subtlety and leaves little room for moody dark corners. A coolly efficient whodunit but no conspiracy classic.
