Samsung shares have staged their biggest one-day gain in 10 months, propelling the stock to a record high.

Shares closed 4.7 per cent higher to Won1.64tn in Seoul today, the largest one-day gain since October last year.

That pushed it past the previous record set on August 8, which came a little more than a week after the company delivered upon its upbeat profit forecast, and reported strong sales of its flagship Galaxy S7 smartphones during the June quarter.

Shares are now up 30.2 per cent so far this year, versus a 4.8 per cent gain for the Kospi benchmark.
