From business school to boardroom

As the debate about the value of the MBA degree continues, Financial Times research reveals that almost one in three chief executives of the world’s largest listed companies have an MBA. Most of these graduated from elite business schools, predominantly those that consistently rank at the top of the FT’s annual Global MBA ranking.

Methodology

The Financial Times identified the current chief executives – as of January 1, 2014 – of companies featuring in the most recent FT500 ranking, composed of the world’s largest 500 listed companies by market capitalisation.

Of these companies, 147 have chief executives with an MBA degree. This chart contains data for the 100 chief executives who gained an MBA from a business school ranked in the top 100 of the FT Global MBA Ranking 2014, to be published on January 27, 2014.

The country of each company’s listing is shown in brackets after company name.
