“Let’s get on with the business,” Craig Finn barks, back in action with The Hold Steady after a four-year lay-off.

There’s a new guitarist on board, Steve Selvidge, but business remains much the same as on the Brooklyn band’s previous albums – sloppy guitars, like beer sloshing around hoisted glasses, punchy drums, Finn’s spat-out vocals, his lyrics intense snapshots of drinkers, runaways, transients, all “waking up with that American Sadness”.
