Students at Salford Business School may soon get a chance to work with their sporting idols, following an agreement between Salford University, in Greater Manchester, Salford City football club and the Class of ’92, a group of Manchester United soccer players recruited under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson.
The collaboration between the University and Manchester United legends Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Gary and Phil Neville and Nicky Butt enables students from the business school’s Centre for Sports Business to contribute to the success of Salford City FC. Activities will include digital marketing initiatives, event management and corporate finance advice.
“Our staff and students can provide the Class of ’92 with impressive expertise in a huge range of areas and I’m looking forward to the partnership being a great success,” says Amanda Broderick, pro vice-chancellor of the university and dean of Salford Business School. “The internship, placement and research opportunities for our students through our exclusive partnership with the Class of ’92 are incredible.”
Gary Neville, co-owner of Salford City and former right-back for Manchester United, said the partnership was part of a move to give something back to the local community. “The Class of ’92 were given a chance when we were young by Manchester United, so now we want to provide the best opportunities possible for Salford students and other young people in the community.”
