South Korea’s stock market and currency climbed on Monday after the country’s ousted leader left the presidential Blue House in Seoul.

The Kospi index was up 1.2 per cent in afternoon trading, with the South Korean won gaining 1 per cent against the dollar on Monday to Won1,146.38 after the weekend departure of former President Park Geun-hye from the Blue House.

Ms Park was thrown out of office on Friday after the country’s constitutional court upheld the legislature’s December impeachment vote. However, she did not move out of the presidential residence until Sunday.
