Helen Morrissey ( Lunch with the FT, October 6) quotes approvingly Geoffrey Boycott’s comment that a second Brexit referendum is like a captain losing the toss and saying: “Can we make it the best of three?” I think Mr Boycott’s comment would be different if the captains found out after the toss that the game was to be played on a different ground in unknown conditions in two years’ time. He would want the toss to be based on known conditions.
