The trumpet and trombone-led quartet Palatino captures the jaunty air of 50s cool and adds a smattering of modern beats and riffs. Drummer Aldo Romano delivers brush-driven swing and a light funky pulse and Michel Benita firm walking lines and counterpoint riffs.

Paolo Fresu’s clean-toned trumpet, mellow flugelhorn and phrase-swapping dialogue with trombonist Glenn Ferris are the main focus. Recorded live in Grenoble last May, the double CD is laced with catchy themes and well-worn phrases made fresh and inviting.
