This heart-warming (at times heart-wrenching) family drama shows the life of a successful businessman and his wife unravel after they are told their six-year-old son was swapped at birth with a child from a family of modest means.

The parents of both estranged children must decide if blood is thicker than water and whether the boys should be returned.

In tender moments shared by the mothers and in his quiet, unobtrusive observations of the children, director Hirokazu Koreeda perceptively sheds light on two families brought together by a mistake and its repercussions.
