What to do when a serial killer – Poe-obsessed professor and novelist Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) – escapes prison, having spent years covertly cultivating a band of civilian acolytes?
For ex-FBI agent Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon), the answer is simple: promptly abandon booze-filled retirement for a manhunt. Seesawing between frenzied slaughter and a rather mundane love triangle involving Hardy, Carroll and Carroll’s ex-wife, this fast-moving series is yet another addition to the cramped thrill-kill genre, but it knows just where to draw the line between smartness and self-indulgence.
