Sir, I was very interested to read John Kay’s piece, “The twisted logic of paying for the privilege of lending” (Comment, September 10/11), on how central bank policy may be viewed by future generations.

Perhaps it is time to shift from the traditional metric of stable economic growth and low inflation, and move to include house price levels and pension provision as key objectives.
