Letter: Johnson’s bungling has echoes of a ’70s sitcom
We’ll send you a myFT Daily Digest email rounding up the latest Letter news every morning.
From the safe distance of our coronavirus exile in Germany we watch with amused amazement the Fawlty Towers show that is the British government’s inept, incompetent endeavour to get to grips with the crisis.
It started with “Don’t Join the EU Procuring Protective Gear” and “Ventilators Made Like Vacuum Cleaners”, leading to “Europe’s Record Beating Infection Rates”, continued with “One Law for Us, One Law for the Plebs” and the unforgettable “The Eye Test”, followed by “A World-Beating Useless Test & Trace System” and the latest “Failing A-levels in Governance”. What antics will be offered next by bumbling Boris Fawlty, served by his sycophantic Manuels and steered by domineering, unassailable Dominic “Sybil” Cummings? If this was a TV sitcom we would be looking forward to the next instalment!
