Having married one of his fans (known as Numanoids) Gary Numan has now done much the same with his music, which has hitched itself to the foreboding industrial rock of Numan fans Nine Inch Nails.

Overseen by techno producer Ade Fenton, the result is boilerplate electro-goth, albeit with spot on attention to detail. Clanking beats and ominous drones create an oppressive atmosphere while Numan intersperses Bowie yelps with whispery Trent Reznor asides. “Everything bleeds,” he intones on “Love Hurt Bleed”: the banality of the observation punctures the colossal solemnity of the occasion.
