Electric Würms: Musik, Die Schwer Zu Twerk – review
We’ll send you a myFT Daily Digest email rounding up the latest Life & Arts news every morning.
As the Flaming Lips are one of rock’s most indulgent bands, making albums designed to be played on four stereos simultaneously, breaking the record for most gigs played in 24 hours and so zanily on, you wonder why Wayne Coyne and Lips sidekick Steven Drozd have bothered with the fresh indulgence of a side-project.
But Electric Würms, an ensemble featuring the pair and Nashville psych band Linear Downfall, does turn out to have a point, a pretty good one too: the creation of classic underground acid rock, a striking mix of weird noises and hypnotically repetitive rhythms, best exemplified by the demented guitars and driving rhythms of “Transform!!!”.
