AstraZeneca is to gain an insurance industry veteran as its new non-executive director.

Philip Broadley will be proposed to shareholders as a member of pharmaceutical group’s audit committee at its AGM on April 27. Ann Cairns will step down from that role on the board on the same date.

Mr Broadley was previously group finance director at Prudential and later held the same role at Old Mutual. He is also a non-executive director at Legal & General Group where he chairs the audit committee.

Chairman Leif Johansson said:

His significant international business and financial experience will prove a valuable addition to the Board and we look forward to welcoming him.
