Donald Trump has failed to reach a deal with hardline conservatives to salvage his healthcare reform at a White House meeting.
Members of the conservative Freedom Caucus emerged from the White House on Thursday without an agreement, leaving a healthcare bill hanging in the balance.
The White House described the meeting as “productive” and Sean Spicer, the president’s spokesman, said he still expected a vote on the bill to take place in the House of Representatives on Thursday.
But on Capitol Hill, expectations of a delay were rising.
Later on Thursday Mr Trump is due to meet moderate Republicans whose concerns about the bill are in some cases the opposite of conservatives’ worries.
