This is retro glamour with a French accent. Zaz (Isabelle Geffroy to the taxman) sometimes sounds like a potted history of French pop music: there is Manouche jazz on ‘Les Passants’, a hint of Django Reinhardt on ‘Comme Ci Comme Ça’, and elsewhere a hint of Edith Piaf, coupled with the upbeat inflections of a Yé-Yé girl – ‘Gamine’ captures that era perfectly, from the title to the punctuating handclaps.
