This “jukebox musical” does for The Proclaimers what Mamma Mia did for Abba. Characters keep bursting into songs by the Leith-born twins, the plot shoehorned around the tunes. So will soldier Davy “walk 500 miles” for Yvonne? Will Florida-bound Liz write a “letter from America”? Jane Horrocks does a “wee hen” accent, and Peter Mullan does his trademark grit. It’s a treat for Proclaimers fans – and Edinburgh tourism, thanks to gorgeous shots of the Scottish capital. For the rest of us, it’s mawkish and excruciating.
