With a palindrome for a name, German post-rock trio To Rococo Rot occupy a self-enclosed space where rigorous repetition meets mild playfulness.

“Besides” juxtaposes a brooding bassline with cosmic computer swooshes, “Down in the Traffic” sets droning synths to a brisk glam-rock stomp and “Spreading the Strings Out” locks a fusillade of antic laser-like noises into an exacting piano motif.

Several songs feature New York avant-guitarist Arto Lindsay singing in a faux-naif croon, a nicely worked change in emphasis from the surrounding instrumentals.
