As the coalition government tries to accelerate its overhaul of financial regulation in the new year, headhunters are also expected to go into overdrive.

The Bank of England will need to hire members for the financial policy committee, which will monitor the economy, looking at macroeconomic and financial issues. The candidates will need financial know-how, but former City bankers, with potential conflicts of interest, are less likely to be chosen.

The Prudential Regulation Authority – overseeing deposit-taking banks, insurers and investment banks and which will be chaired by Mervyn King and led by Hector Sants – will also be looking for new members as will the Consumer Protection and Markets Authority with responsibility for consumer protection.
