Hunting may have been banned, but national hunt racing on Saturday makes a welcome return to Windsor. The picturesque Thames-side course last played host to jumpers six years ago, though today's meeting is only as a result of the refurbishment of Ascot.
The feature race is the Life From Coloroll Chase. With Calling Brave ducking the assignment the race has lost its obvious star, but the field remains highly competitive. Atum Re has a good each-way chance. The horse was just short of the top draw novices last term. But in running both Calling Brave and Thisthatandtother close is good enough form for the horse to be in the shake-up today.
The totesport Peterborough Chase is Huntingdon's richest prize and this is a typically high quality renewal. Over the last few years this has been a benefit race for the admirable Edredon Blue. But at the age of 12 the former champion two-miler is surely vulnerable. Hand Inn Hand has an obvious chance but he is just too unreliable, when he is good he is very, very, good but when he is bad he is horrid.
Le Roi Miguel looks the one to back. He is reportedly a transformed horse for a wind operation in the summer and has been sharpened up with a spin over hurdles.
On Sunday Amberleigh House returns to the scene of his Grand National triumph. The totesport Becher Chase is run over the famous national fences and it will be fascinating to see how the reigning champ warms to his task This race is well worth setting the video for, the first two home in the Becher last year filled those positions in the Grand National.
For all Amberleigh House's obvious claims, it is hard to see him lumping 11 stone 10 lbs to victory over a trip that might be a tad too short. Tipsy Mouse could be the answer to this puzzle. He has a pretty good jumping record, having fallen only once and won the Scottish Border National last term.
1:35 Windsor: Atum Re (each-way
3:00 Huntingdon: Le Roi Miguel (win)
2:45 Aintree (Sunday): Tipsy Mouse (each-way)
