Power dressing: John Auerbach

John Auerbach, 35, is international managing director of e-commerce at Christie’s New York. Prior to Christie’s, Auerbach was a founding member of the management team of the online shopping site Gilt Groupe, where he oversaw the men’s businesses.

Suit by Martin Greenfield custom

Martin is one of the last true, old-school tailors still working in NYC. I was lucky enough to discover him through a friend and haven’t gone back to off-the-peg suits since. Martin’s perfect fit and details like brightly coloured linings and a pocket for my iPhone make it a pleasure to get dressed.

Shirt by Thom Browne

No one understands fit like Thom and I love his signature zips of colour on the inside panel of his shirts. I wear his shirts exclusively because they fit me so perfectly and because I like the old-school nature of the heavy Oxford cloth he uses. His signature grosgrain trim on the inside placket of his shirt works well with or without a tie.

Tie by Saint Laurent

What I like about this tie is that it manages to find the perfect middle ground: not too skinny and not too wide.

Shoes by Gucci

Gucci is a prime example of the art of Italian shoemaking. I’ve had these shoes for several years now and haven’t retired them because the style continues to be relevant – and because they are so incredibly comfortable.

Watch by Rolex

I love to collect vintage watches. Wear gives a watch more character and this design, like all Rolexes, is truly timeless.

Belt by Sid Mashburn

Sid Mashburn is based in my home town of Atlanta and getting a chance to shop there is still a highlight of any trip back home.
