Steve Jones is to step down as dean of the Kenan-Flagler school at the University of North Carolina when his five-year term comes to an end next summer. However, he will remain on the faculty of the school.

The school listed Jones’ achievements as strengthening the faculty and the student body, enhancing the school’s reputation with recruiters, raising alumni support to an all-time high, and adding 13 endowed professorships.

In an interview with the Financial Times in October, professor Jones took a swipe at many of the sacred cows of management education, saying that the US business school industry needed to innovate more rapidly if it was to continue to prosper.

The university has begun the search for Prof Jones’ successor.
