The University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business is to enter the increasingly crowded California market with an executive MBA programme, to be launched in Los Angeles in August 2012.

The move will put the school in direct competition with UCLA’s Anderson school of Business and the Marshall school at the University of Southern California, both of which run EMBAs in Los Angeles, as well as Pepperdine University’s Graziadio school. The Marshall school also runs a local part-time programme and an EMBA in China with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, while the Anderson school has a joint EMBA with the National University of Singapore.

“This growth on the West Coast allows Michigan Ross to build on a strong alumni presence in the region,” says Alison Davis-Blake, dean of the Ross school. “We are confident Ross graduates, who know first-hand the value proposition of a Michigan degree, will recommend candidates, sponsor employees and recruit our graduates.”

The 20-month programme will open its doors to its first class in August 2012. Classes are held once every month.
