Verizon Communications, the US telecoms company, said on Monday that it snatched Apple’s global creative director to lead its newly-built in-house advertising agency.

Andrew McKechnie will “assume leadership of Verizon’s in-house team with the goal of building out creative capabilities and bringing the company’s brand vision to life”.

Before making the move to Verizon, Mr McKechnie led a global team of more than 40 writers, designers and art directors in Apple’s design group, according to his LinkedIn profile. He had held the position of global group creative director from March 2014, his LinkedIn says.

Mr McKechnie has also held senior titles at DDB and Y&R, both New York ad houses.

“As we expand our bench of world-class marketing talent, we are thrilled for Andrew to bring his global expertise and fresh aesthetic to the Verizon brand,” said Diego Scotti, Verizon’s chief marketing officer.

“Andrew and his team will help to drive demand for our products and services, as well as accelerate our efficiencies, speed to market and innovation.”
