Iraq’s oil a decade after invasion

When the US-led coalition invaded Iraq a decade ago, some conspiracy theorists predicted that US oil companies would immediately gain control of the country’s vast oilfields. But 10 years later, there has been no bonanza in Iraq for western oil companies.

Since 1980, Iraq has been involved in three major conflicts. This graphic examines how oil production has fared in this period in Iraq, which of its regions have the greatest resources, and what limitations western oil companies face doing business there.
