Sir, I sincerely hope that the City of London does not mirror EU regulations after Brexit except during any implementation period. With President Donald Trump’s programme of mass deregulation in the US, it will only be a question of months before Wall Street follows. With the sclerotic, anti-competitive legal framework so beloved of Brussels, any rivalry for capital market share will see a resounding victory for Wall Street in short order.
