‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore

Silk Street Theatre (Barbican), London

Cheek by Jowl’s thrilling production of John Ford’s Jacobean tragedy returns. Still one of the most shocking of the plays of that era, this violent, passionate drama tells the story of a brother and sister whose closeness shifts into incest, and finally to a blood-soaked ending.

Declan Donnellan’s production is gripping, fast and lurid; Eve Ponsonby takes on the role of Annabella and Orlando James is Giovanni in this ensemble staging.
