From Mr Alistair Budd.

Sir, Harry Eyres makes several good points in his column on employment (“Why work so hard?”, Life & Arts, November 16). Mr Eyres does not address, however, the crucial question of whether or not we actually enjoy our work.

When we find employment that brings genuine satisfaction, the number of hours we work is of little import. Financial rewards are equally irrelevant. If we enjoy the tasks we’re given, the contentment it brings to our lives provides the only reward we really need.
