Trump weighs in on Berkeley protests

Donald Trump is awake and tweeting.

The US president has started the day off with another controversial tweet, this time appearing to threaten to withdraw federal funding for Californian university UC Berkeley following protests on campus this week.

A speech by right-wing Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos at UC Berkeley was cancelled yesterday after protests on campus turned violent.

Protesters broke windows and hurled smoke bombs and flares, according to media reports, prompting security officials in riot gear to intervene.

Last month, over 2,000 faculty members at Californian universities, led by a Berkeley professor, sent an open letter to Mr Trump this week calling on him to honour the US’s commitments to the Paris climate agreement signed last year.
