Another day, another record high for the UK’s mid-cap index.

The FTSE 250 has set a new record for the fourth time in as many days, hitting a high of 18,847 at the open. At publication time the index was up 0.2 per cent, at 18,825. The index is now up more than 4 per cent for the year to date.

Defence technology group Qinetiq was the biggest riser on the index, with shares climbing 4.5 per cent to 289p after it said it is on track to halt five years of sliding revenues.

Analysts at Liberum said that “while shipment of certain orders remains key to performance, we sense upside potential”.
