Live 1986

(Fledg’ling)

Halfway between the Miners’ Strike and the Big Bang, Home Service played a blistering set at Cambridge Folk Festival, their mixture of truculent folk-rock and Percy Grainger brass defiantly out of time even as they nodded to Chernobyl and cracked jokes – “what’s green and white and makes you drunk?” – about Giros.

This newly-unearthed recording sounds just as good as they did that day.
