Larry Kudlow has a “good chance” of replacing Gary Cohn as the head of the National Economic Council, Donald Trump said on Tuesday.
He said he was looking “very strongly” at the CNBC commentator as a candidate for the post, adding that he was also speaking to many others about the position.
Mr Kudlow is a free trade advocate who has been critical of Mr Trump’s approach to tariffs, but the president said they agreed on most matters and that Mr Kudlow had come around to believing in the use of tariffs as a negotiating point.
Mr Cohn is stepping down after clashing with the president over the decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminium imports.
