Goodie Mob’s first record with founding member Cee-Lo Green in 14 years has its moments such as “I’m Set” in which the southern rap pioneers reimagine their Atlanta roots as a kind of dirty-south West Side Story.
But Age Against the Machine is overlong and incoherent: lots of interludes and sketches, none of the lowdown funk of their 1995 classic Soul Food and several manic pop songs that sound like cuts from a Cee-Lo solo set.
