Anyone Who Had a Heart provides a chronological overview of the Burt Bacharach’s matchless songwriting career, from “These Desperate Hours”, sung by Mel “Velvet Fog” Tormé in 1955, to his 2010 composition “Some Lovers”, sung by Rumer.

It’s a handsome collection of music but lacks detail: instead of an in-depth breakdown of the songs, the accompanying book limits itself to a pedestrian account of Bacharach’s life.
