From Mr Charles D. Collins.

Sir, As an academic, I was impressed by Elizabeth Morgan’s provocative comments setting the over-educated, over-privileged class of risk-averse (as with cushioned chief executives?) academics – who repeatedly wreck the car – opposite the working single moms who with courage, common sense and emotional maturity “fix problems”.

My admiration for the comparison was suddenly deflated, however, by Dr Morgan’s suggestion that Sarah Palin (who left her Alaska governor’s office for a higher calling) and those she supports are “among the few grown-ups in national politics”.

One is reminded of a priest who once told the French novelist André Malraux: “There are no grown-ups.”
