Sir, Lockwood Smith’s op-ed “ New Zealand shows British farmers how to embrace Brexit” (February 9) should be compulsory reading for all who see only risk in Brexit and have forgotten the insights from building comparative advantage as a basis for sustainable success in the global economy.

The insights from the New Zealand case study go well beyond farming; in so many ways the economic pragmatism of the New Zealanders provides a model for all nations to consider. It is little wonder also that so many of the world’s billionaires see the country as haven, not just because of its natural beauty.

For those who haven’t studied the New Zealand success story, now is a great time to do so; it’s refreshing both in theory and in practice.
