The school of management at Xiamen University is to be the latest partner in the OneMBA consortium, which runs an Executive MBA programme on four continents – North and South America, Europe and Asia. The inclusion of Xiamen follows the decision by CUHK, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, to withdraw from the programme in June this year, when its current students graduate.

CUHK was one of the five founding members of the programme, which was launched in 2002. The other four participating schools are the Kenan-Flagler school at the University of North Carolina, Egade Business School in Mexico, Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) in Brazil and the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) in the Netherlands.

The coastal city of Xiamen, where the new partner university is situated, is the international shipping centre which directly faces the island of Taiwan, and is China’s primary commercial, cultural and academic link with Taiwan.

Yifeng Shen, dean of the Xiamen University School of Management, says that OneMBA’s vision and goals reflect those of Tan Kah Kee, the ‘Henry Ford of Asia,’ who founded Xiamen University in 1921 with the view of linking China and the world. “OneMBA offers both an opportunity and a responsibility to carry our century-long vision of embracing global cultures to an entirely new level.”

The OneMBA degree combines local courses, all taught in English by the individual institutions, with international business teaching. OneMBA participants come together during the programme for week-long international residencies and work together across the four continents on projects.
