Currently touring with Elton John, who pops up to sing a stentorian cameo on his second album Life Is Easy, Bright Light Bright Light’s Rod Thomas makes smooth, heartfelt electropop.
Sometimes it’s too smooth, especially Thomas’s breathy vocals – his heartfeltness doesn’t feel very felt – but the songs are dynamic and well-structured, powered as they are by a deep house music pulse (“There Are No Miracles”) and euphoric pure-pop (the Elton-featuring “I Wish We Were Leaving”).
