At their base in Niamey, the capital of Niger, Tal National are at the confluence of a range of musical styles, from the Desert Blues of the north to the Manding guitar of the west.

They blend it all into a relentless blur of polyrhythms, part-Songhai, part-Touareg, part-Hausa: when this basic but atmospheric recording hits its groove, as on the circular riffing of ‘Zigda’, you can feel why their live performances last for five hours.
