The French economy, the second largest economy in the eurozone, expanded by 0.4 per cent in the third quarter, a marked acceleration on the 0.2 per cent expansion recorded on each of the previous two quarters of 2018.

The improvement was driven by domestic consumption.

However, growth of 0.4 per cent was slightly behind predictions from the Banque de France and other forecasters expecting 0.5 per cent in the months June to September.
