Released to coincide with the Monday of the Brazil Carnival, Orquestra Imperial’s second album continues the 20-strong band’s mission to revive Rio big-band gafieira samba, but shot through with a post-Tropicalia sensibility, as witness the swinging brass riffs of “Tamancas Do Cataretê” or the rhythmic pile-up of “A Saudade É Que Me Consola”, or the scuzzy guitars of “Mocotó Em Tijuana”.
