Sir, George Osborne, the UK chancellor, feels that capitalism is not in crisis (“The west faces a crisis of confidence, not a crisis of capitalism”, January 28). To support this claim, he writes: “Travel east, and no one is talking of capitalism in crisis.”
A funny claim. In China, workers jump out of factory windows after labouring 80-hour weeks. And in India, Anna Hazare is on hunger strike again, fighting the deep-rooted corruption that is holding the lower classes back. I guess it all depends on whom you go to meet, when you travel east.
