Loundo (Un Jour)
On the opening track, “T’En Vas Pas, Ça Va Pas”, the whole history of Manding guitar music flows through Moh! Kouyate’s fingers and from his lips: fluid guitar lines that play in call and response with a vocal as imperious as a call to prayer.
But the Guinean draws on wider references, roping in friends from his Parisian base, both within and without the African diaspora.
Vincent Ségal and Piers Faccini provide a pastoral string undertone to “Gassata”; Mariama, originally from Sierra Leone, brightens up flute-heavy liberation anthem “Darré”, which deserves to be a hit single, with soulful singing.
