Sightseers – DVD review

To the already long list of horrors associated with caravanning holidays, Sightseers adds bludgeoning, hit-and-runs and crotchless crocheted underwear

Ben Wheatley, 2012
Studiocanal

To the already long list of horrors associated with British caravanning holidays – leaky windows, Formica furnishings, sheer boredom – Sightseers adds a few more: bludgeoning, hit-and-runs and crotchless crocheted underwear to name a few. From the dark mind of Ben Wheatley (Kill List) come the unlovely pair Chris and Tina. He an aspiring writer and part-time psychopath, she an animal-loving knitter, they embark on a cosy romantic getaway of murderous mayhem like an anorak-clad Bonnie and Clyde. With self-righteous ramblers and hen-party harpies among the victims, there is deliciously dark fun here, even if, like most caravan trips, it eventually starts to drag.
