Berlin police say they intercepted a suspicious package at the German finance ministry in central Berlin, saying it was being investigated by explosives experts.

Police tweeted that the package was delivered to the ministry’s postroom at 9.30 am on Wednesday. The office of the Berlin state criminal police determined that it could be dangerous, and some finance ministry employees were forced to leave their offices.

Police said the package was X-rayed and secured, and had been taken to an explosives testing ground. They said explosives experts at Germany’s State Protection Office had taken over further investigations.
